"At that time there shall arise
Michael, the great prince,
guardian of your people;
it shall be a time unsurpassed in distress
since nations began until that time.
At that time your people shall escape,
everyone who is found written in the book.”
The prophet Daniel mentioned St. Michael the Archangel, the “great prince” and guardian of God’s people. You might have noticed that after every daily Mass and Sunday Mass, we recite the St. Michael Prayer. Soon, I will be instituting the traditional prayers at the end of Mass. These prayers will be familiar to some of our more “seasoned” parishioners - they were said after every Mass for years. The intention behind them is to call upon God, the Blessed Mary, St. Michael, and all the saints to come to our aid, especially while Christ still abides in us after receiving the Eucharist.
Never underestimate the Church’s wisdom in having said these prayers for so long. It was a big mistake to stop praying the powerful prayer to St. Michael - the one who, along with the Blessed Mother, is the great opponent of the Evil One. Please call upon his powerful intercession often, especially in these troubled times.
